Flying DeLorean from Back To The Future

Vliegende Delorean uit Back To The Future

This replica of the Delorean (from the movie Back To The Future) has been replicated at full scale and can actually fly!

This project combines multiple expertises of Brocken Dynamics into one whole. The body of the Delorean was entirely milled from EPS foam (ISOMO) using our ABB IRB6400 industrial robot. The total weight of the EPS body is 14Kg.

The supporting frame of the car was entirely made of Carbon Fiber. For this, 20mm tubes were used, connected with custom-made Forged Carbon Fiber corners. 3D-printed molds were used for this.

The wheels are driven and can also steer. Furthermore, the wheels can retract in flight. The mechanisms of this suspension are entirely 3D-printed from PA612-CF15 (Carbon filled Nylon).

The motor mounts that attach the motors with propellers to the Carbon Fiber frame are also 3D-printed from the same material. These were calculated for a load of 15Kg with a safety margin of 25% but could, in reality, hold more than 50Kg without breaking.
